According to a recent article by the Commercial Carrier Journal, CCJ, Walmart is pressuring carriers
against doing business with Amazon.
Walmart’s logistics arm, including the retail’s private fleet and its outsourced for-hire carriers, has been communicating to those carriers that they may decide against future business with them if they conduct business with Amazon.
According to the article’s primary source, the carriers Walmart is relaying the message to are those in the 100 to 300-truck range.
For years, Walmart and Amazon have been feuding for online retail business, primarily online. The article states Walmart’s biggest concern is freight cyclicality and securing trucking capacity to move during busy seasons.
Walmart carriers are understanding the message, if they choose to do business with Amazon, they will be dropped by Amazon. The concern is specifically over Amazon’s cloud storage business, and Walmart’s proprietary data being stored or shared on Amazon servers.
